I have mentioned a few times on here the food issues we have in our household. But even with that, I was so excited to be able to try the HelloFresh food box! What is a HelloFresh food box? Glad you asked! hehe.. It is a weekly box subscription service, similar to a lot of the popular ones out there now. BUT!! This one includes everything you need to make three meals a week! You can choose between the classic or the vegetarian boxes. They send the recipes AND all of the ingredients… all you need are some basic staples such as salt and pepper, or olive oil, that sort of thing.
When I first logged onto the website to choose my three meals, I loved that there were three choices, with two substitutes. While I am pretty open to trying new things, one of the main choices was a seafood and we just don’t do seafood well here. It was easy enough to change around my choices out of the five given. It didn’t take long at all to set it all up, all I had to do was wait for it to be delivered the following week! I was so excited to get it!
And it came!!
I was very curious to see how everything was shipped. My meal choices involved some meat and I wanted to check that out!
The inside of the box was very well insulated with a couple ice packs. It was downright cold in there!! Made me feel better about my chicken! 😀
That brings me to the first meal we cooked! Lauren cooked this one! It was Sauteed Chicken with Ginger Parsnips & Carrots. All of the ingredients are bagged together and labeled for each meal, it makes it very easy! The recipe cards show you steps with pictures, I love that, so that you know you are doing things correctly. 😉
This had a lot of cutting! The first time Lauren really cut anything like that! And here is the final product! This was very tasty! I had never had parsnips before and I was pleasantly surprised! All of the ingredients worked very well together!
The next thing we made was Penne all’Arrabbiata with Pancetta. Ryan made this one.
Not so much cutting on this recipe, it was pretty quick to put together! It says on the recipe card that Arrabbiata means angry in Italian and our meal was pretty angry because Ryan added quite a bit of chili flakes…lol. But it was still pretty tasty!
This is the final product!
The last recipe we tried was Warm Eggplant Layered Salad with Garlic Yogurt Dressing. Kyle made this one. Surprisingly, this was my favorite recipe of the three! It was very tasty! The combination of warm and cool and all of the flavors…it just worked very well together!! And, since I am the only one that eats veggies, I have a lot for leftovers! 😉 yum!
Quite a bit of cutting and dicing in this recipe. That was all new to Kyle, but he did great! Jeffy helped him a little with it because at that moment I was eating my dessert from lunch. ha!
And this is the final product. The layers of this meal were amazing together. This picture shows just a small amount of the food that was prepared!
All in all I was very happy with my experience! Everything was fresh when it arrived and they were very thorough on the recipe cards which helped a lot since the kids did most of the cooking! It also lists the estimated nutrition info on the recipe cards.
The service I picked was a serving for two people, but there was a lot of food! Very large servings, at least for as much as I eat in a serving. The classic box for two people runs $69. You can choose which weeks you want a delivery and which ones you don’t. You just have to order a week before delivery, and delivery happens on Wednesdays. The vegetarian boxes for two people are $59. There are also options for four people.
If my family ate more of the ingredients that are in a lot of the recipes, I would definitely be using this service more! To do it now, consistently, I would be eating a lot of food by myself! Ha!! I do think it would be great to do every now and again though! I love making new recipes and they send you everything so it can’t get much easier. I hesitate so much with new recipes sometimes because of having to go to the store for ingredients, especially things that I haven’t shopped for before, like eggplant! 😀
If you would like to try this service, you can use the code KEQ93D for $20 off of your first box! That makes it very reasonable, in my opinion, and you can skip going to the grocery store! 😉
I reviewed this product with Mosaic Reviews, and there were more people that tried HelloFresh over the course of four weeks. You can check out their recipes and thoughts here. I loved seeing some of their food choices, especially the ones around Thanksgiving. 🙂
