Homeschool Planet

A lot of you know that a few months back I had lost everything on one of my computer hard drives. :sigh: Yes, I would always tell my clients to back up everything…and look what happened.. Anyway, that led to me giving that computer to the kids and also my desk. I bought a little laptop and now do my computing anywhere I want to. And that means that I don’t have my little organization system anymore! Sure, that ‘organization system’ consisted of a lot of sticky notes and a little calendar at my desk, but it worked for me then…for the most part.

I soon realized that taking my laptop wherever I wanted didn’t leave room for sticky notes and calendars! Luckily, right around the same time, I was asked to review Homeschool Planet. What a lifesaver. I don’t even know where to begin to describe all of what this includes! I will try!

Homeschool Planet logoFirst of all, there is a calendar. This was fantastic for me when I first logged on because I can input things for each person. Or, for two people. However many people. So, for the Sundays that Jeffy and I volunteer at church I can put that in there and it will show up for both of us. There are different categories that are color coded as well. Orthodontist visits are a different color than church functions, etc.

Homeschool Planet CalendarYou can put in how long something is going to take and it fills in the appropriate space for you on the calendar. It sends me reminders via email any time something is going on. If you provide emails for anyone else mentioned on your calendar, it will send them reminders as well! That comes in handy!

There is the calendar view, like what is shown above, as well as a planner view, which is more like what you would see in a spiral bound planner notebook. Both views are helpful for different things. You can also choose to view the calendar by the day, week or the month.

So, I had used that for a couple months and then we started school at the beginning of the year. Woah.. Complete game changer! I can input all of their subjects and those are color coded as well.. You choose what you want to count as far as grades and how you want the grades to look. I am choosing to only count quizzes and tests for grading since they don’t really have homework to grade.

I can type in their new test grades and it keeps track and computes the new overall grade for the class. That is just not something I have been doing because I just don’t have time, and this does it in a second! Love that. So, I can post their scores every month so they can see where they are in each class. Or, they can log in themselves with their own login information. For example, I can look at Lauren’s grade report and this is what it shows me.

LaurenGradesHa, keep in mind we just started school on the 5th and haven’t done anything since the beginning of October.. Ahh, I know she will get the grades up higher. keeps track of everything that I put in, and I love how organized it is.

There are so many features to mention on the school section but, like I said, we just started school a couple weeks ago and I am still learning all of them. I waited longer than I normally do for a review, just for this reason. I do like what I have seen so far! You can check out this quick YouTube video on their website that gives an overview of a lot of features here: Overview of Homeschool Planet

WidgetsAs far as the general layout, it is very easy on the eyes, which I love. You can choose which background you like as well as choose from a variety of widgets. Daily quotes and bible verses, the weather and a look up widget too, that you can choose what you want to use to do the looking. Google, Bible, dictionary, movies, Amazon…quite a few choices. There is also To-Do lists and shopping lists. You can text the shopping list to your husband if he is on his way home from work and is going to stop at the store. So much better than spouting off a bunch of stuff hoping that he remembers….ha!

I know that I left out a lot of stuff, but what is great is that you can get a free 30 day trial to check it out for yourself! You can click on the link here to find out more about that. After the trial it is $65 for the year, or you can do monthly payments as well. I love that the trial doesn’t even ask for a credit card, so there is no risk if you decide not to continue.

I am looking forward to discovering more what it can do, especially as we get further along in our school year! If you would like to see what other people had to say about Homeschool Planet, you can check that out here. Let me know if you try it and how you like it! And if you already use it, let me know your tips! 🙂

I was provided the service in exchange for my honest review.
