Team Us: Marriage Together {Review and Giveaway}

Jeffy and I have been married for almost 19 years. There have been ups and downs, as most marriages have…thankfully way more ups than downs… I do enjoy reading a variety of marriage books and getting different insights on other couples relationships.

I just finished reading Team Us: Marriage Together. Right away this book was different than others I have read because I felt like Ashleigh, the author, was talking about our relationship! When she was talking about Ted, her husband, it was like she was describing Jeffy. And some of the things they went through were similar as well! Miscarriages, selling houses, job changes, cross country moves…it was all in there.

Team UsI appreciated this book a lot because of that, it was familiar.. I enjoy the way she wrote.. A combination of stories and life experiences mixed in with television shows and scripture. It was a very fast read,161 pages, but I can see going back through every now and again to find something that she mentioned or a bible verse she quoted. There are also questions at the end of each chapter to get you and your spouse thinking about things that were mentioned. I like that Ted went through periodically and commented on things that she wrote about. Makes even more personable…

There is a quote at the beginning of the book that really describes the book and what it is about:

The greatest marriages are built on teamwork. A mutual respect, a healthy dose of admiration, and a never-ending portion of love and grace. – Fawn Weaver

That is so true! She explains throughout the book how they are a team. Not like a sports team, but still ‘working and playing toward a winning season’. How wonderful! 🙂 That is our goal as well and it has worked so far!

About the book:

176 pages / Forward by Dr. Gary Chapman (author of 5 Love Languages)

What are you agreeing to when you say “I do”? When a couple promises “I do,” they agree to more than just a shared last name, a joint bank account, and no more dateless nights. This husband and wife duo forms a new team. “Life together” becomes their mantra. Nothing can come between them. At least, that’s the plan. But then real life sets in. With it come disappointments and frustrations. If the couple isn’t intentional in their day-to-day interactions, that once enthusiastic “we” can slowly revert to “you” and “me.” Before long, the couple’s left wondering what happened to their team spirit.
Team Us: Marriage Together offers couples practical ways to cultivate and strengthen unity in their marriages. Author Ashleigh Slater shares from her own marriage as she presents couples with realistic ideas on how to foster cooperation, deepen commitment, and exercise grace on a daily basis.

 “Finishing your marriage story well is definitely within your reach, no matter what your history tells you.”

You can check out Ashleigh’s blog and the official website for more information!

    Anything that allows us to spend quality time with each other, whether it’s reading devotionals and studying Bible scriptures; going to the gym, going to a concert (we recently went to the Winter Jam), or going to our favorite antique shops. 🙂
